We hit the road this weekend, heading for the Warrnambool Art Gallery, always worth a visit if you haven’t been. Their program is bold, playful, and adventurous, always nice surprises from this small regional gallery.
But this isn’t about the gallery.
On the way, we rolled through Colac and spotted a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it sign: Colac Ten Pin Bowl. Obviously, we pulled over. I love a good bowl. I love it even more when it’s down the back of an old school shopping mall I didn’t know existed.
We smashed a few frames, paired with doughnut fries and vodka cruisers. Then reminisced with Daytona, air hockey, and arcade games that still spit out paper tickets.
Colac’s got charm. Between the bowling, the op shops, the bakeries, and the vintage signage, it’s worth the detour. Or better yet, make a day of it.
Colac is approximately 150 km south-west of Melbourne.
