Radium Dolls
Storming out of Brisbane/Meanjin, Radium Dolls have carved out their place in Australia’s rock scene with sheer force and swagger. Known for bone-rattling performances and unforgettable energy, their anthemic tracks ignite crowd sing-alongs and consistently sell out venues. Their debut album, Legal Speed, propelled them into the spotlight with singles like ‘CIA’ and ‘NAA’. Fresh off the success of their Man Scout single tour, Radium Dolls have cemented their reputation as a must-see live act. Blending humour, ferocity, and introspection, this four-piece powerhouse is on a meteoric rise.
Nice Biscuit
Since the release of their debut LP in 2018, Nice Biscuit have founded a unique style of psych-rock influenced by krautrock, garage and modern psych. Nice Biscuit transcends the classic psych hallmarks of fuzzy guitars and repetitive rhythms with the performance and vocal harmonies of co-front women, Billie Star and Grace Cuell who use constant harmonies throughout each song to create a distinct voice within the sonic landscape of Nice Biscuit. A trademark of Billie and Grace includes creating, and designing outfits which draw you further into a world of their making. With layers of swirling harmonies, precise instrumentation and striking visuals, Nice Biscuit has garnered a reputation for captivating live shows and immersive song writing.
Marina Allen (USA)
Known for her vivid songwriting, Los Angeles-based musician Marina Allen has ripened a rare harvest with her third studio album. Taking fragments and stories from Allenʼs past, Eight Pointed Star is an arrival home. She'll be bringing these dreamlike musings, each conjuring a world of their own, on tour across Australia this May! This timeless collection of songs is a clear-eyed modern classic of alternative folk and Americana that holds a curiosity as open to you as you are to them. Itʼs an album about discovery, searching with the eight points of a compass; about hope, gazing at the emanations within the eight points of a North Star; and about ancestry, being comforted by the eight-pointed stitching patterns used in quilt-making. Full of little, radical acts, coming from a place of truth, Eight Pointed Star favors a type of soul-searching that doesnʼt dwell in complications, and is open to answers. Trust is the centrifuge around which themes of love, family and folklore unfurl across the album. Dust is kicked up from the red-scarred earth, and with it, an inexplicable calm settles over these nine songs.
Betty Taylor
Betty Taylor is the friend who holds your hand after your heart's been broken. The band is made up of Sophie Patrick, whose indie hooks and sincere and often tongue in cheek lyrics are complemented by Kayla Smart (AKA Dorah Jacson)'s beautiful harmonies and wistful guitar riffs. Helping to strike this perfect balance between power and charm are Claire Chittick on bass and Katie Ishaque on drums. From an open mic to a backyard party show 2 years ago, Betty Taylor has quickly become Australia's newfound companions. Their debut single 'Stallin', produced by Aidan Hogg (known for G Flip, Jaguar Jonze, Hope D), premiered on triple J. It has already accumulated over 300,000 streams. Followed ups Glitter and Can't Get Enough have seen top twenty most played on triple J. Their endearing live show presence has graced stages alongside acclaimed acts such as girl in red, Beddy Rays, Teenage Dads, Boy and Bear and The Rubens and recent standout performances at Groovin the Moo and NYE on the Hill.
JB Paterson
Set to release his fourth album, Whole World's Gone Mad, And So Have I, JB ventures into new territory, blending sharp social commentary, long narratives with his signature DIY sound. A departure from the gentle tones of Springtime is Coming, this latest work offers a raw, introspective edge. Recorded at his solar-powered cabin in Cedar Creek, the album comes to life with the dynamic contributions of his band throughout the process. JB Paterson is a roving blue-collar songwriter and producer. Inspired by traditional folk & blues music, appropriating ancient melodies with a strong focus on lyrics performed on guitar and piano. Compared to songwriters Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan.
Skyscraper Stan
Antipodean songwriter Skyscraper Stan is a true believer in the power of words. One sentence, massaged just the right way, can be an entire story in and of itself. “I write songs slowly” he says. “I think about everything I put down. Every line I sing, there’s a meaning to it”. Across a career spanning the better part of a decade, two studio albums and countless live performances, he has established himself as one of the most thrilling lyricists working in Australia today. Endless months on the road, “singing for his chips”, observing the lives of people in town and country and putting it all down on paper has sharpened Stan’s songwriting to a fine point. The Commission Flats, Stan’s longtime collaborators, are equally responsible for the band’s cult following. The distinctive guitar work of Oskar Herbig is as much a part of the sound as Stan’s songwriting. Martin Schilov’s melodic basslines, with influences ranging Stax era soul through to Melbourne post punk, march in lockstep with Andy Lloyd-Russell’s consistently surprising (and endlessly satisfying) work on the drumkit. A more recent addition to the sound - the saxophone of Samuel Boon - peppers the live set with pops, blasts, squeals, growls and hooks.
SCRAPS
Meanjin/Brisbane “dehydrated disco” producer Laura Hill draws from a persuasive mood-board of 80’s hairdresser magazines bleaching in the desert, cubist synth-pop, and disaster fascination. Her synthesis of raw rhythms, sequencer intuition, and echo-soaked storytelling hone and decay- heatwaving between low-lidded new wave, woozy acid ballads, and alienated karaoke. Keep it steady, come into the world of SCRAPS.
Uncle Bob's Jug Band
Uncle Bob’s Jug Band Established over 32 years ago and still going stronger than ever and have performed at various major Australian Festivals with several awards to their credit. The boys hail from Eumundi (home of the Markets) on the Sunshine Coast Qld. The Juggies are the worlds most amazing, unpredictable, band of misfits that has been around since the dawn of time and has so many different members the band forgets who is who. The jug bands diet consists of beer, grass clippings and moonshine.
